About Us

Dr. Snodgrass graduated cum laude from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 1985. He completed a General Practice Residency in Hartford, CT at St. Francis Hospital in 1986, and then was in private practice as a general dentist for five years in Sharon, CT. In 1990 he began his two-year Graduate Orthodontic Residency at the State University of Buffalo. Upon completion, he had a very successful orthodontic practice at the Guthrie Clinic and Medical Center in Sayre, PA for 12 years, where he served as the Chief of the Orthodontic Department for the last nine of those years.

In 2003 Dr. Snodgrass was asked to relocate his family to Cumberland, and join Dr. McLuckie in practice. He is an active member of the Allegany / Garrett County Dental Society. Dr. Snodgrass is also a member of the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the American Dental Association. He prides himself on staying current with all aspects of orthodontic treatment through regular continuing education and journal research.

Dr. Valerie Ryan is a native of Cumberland, MD and graduated from Bishop Walsh High School in 2005.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Maryland, College Park.  Dr. Ryan then attended the University of Maryland School of Dentistry where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2009.  During her four years in Baltimore, Dr. Ryan was inducted into the Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Honor Society.  After dental school, she completed her three-year residency program at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, earning her Orthodontics specialty certificate and a Masters’ of Science degree in Orthodontics.  She holds active memberships in the American Dental Association and Maryland State chapter, as well as the American Association of Orthodontics, Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontics, and the local Allegany Garrett Dental Society. She is familiar with the use of several types of orthodontic appliances and maintains certification in the Invisalign and Harmony Invisible lingual orthodontic systems. In addition to providing care to patients at our three local offices, Dr. Ryan also volunteers her time and services to the Orofacial team of The Children’s League Cumberland Cleft Clinic which provides free services to local cleft lip/palate children.

Valerie lives in Cumberland with her husband, Dr. Matthew Ryan, who is a physical therapist at Progressive Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center. In addition to spending time with family and friends, she enjoys cooking and traveling.  She is excited to be back in the neighborhood—this time as a member of the Allegany Orthodontics team!  Dr. Ryan looks forward to seeing both new and familiar faces while she and Dr. Snodgrass work together to create beautiful smiles!
